Non-lucrative visa

A lawful stay authorisation for non-EU nationals with sufficient financial resources who want to reside in Spain without carrying out employment or professional activities: retirees and pensioners, people living on private income, passive investors or holders of consolidated wealth who meet the financial-means requirements.

  1. Consular stage (examination): the application is filed in person with the Spanish Diplomatic Mission or Consular Office of the district where the person lives; the decision takes a maximum of three months.
  2. Issue and entry stage: once the grant is notified, there is one month to collect the visa; after entering Spain, 30 calendar days to apply for the Foreigner Identity Card (TIE) at the relevant Immigration Office or police station.

  1. Financial means: resources reaching the applicable legal threshold for the holder, plus the additional amount for each dependent family member; immediately available funds of lawful origin.
  2. Medical insurance with an insurer authorised to operate in Spain, with cover equivalent to that of the National Health System and without co-payments or waiting periods.
  3. Criminal record certificate from the country of origin or of residence for the last five years, with no convictions for offences defined under Spanish law.
  4. Medical certificate confirming the absence of diseases with serious public health implications, in accordance with the 2005 International Health Regulations.
