Study stay for higher education
It can be applied for from Spain if you are in the country lawfully and have been admitted to a study programme, in many cases without having to return to your country of origin. It is a common way to begin an academic experience in Spain and to open the door to future residence opportunities.
Eligible studies
- Bachelor's degrees.
- Official master's degrees or university-specific master's programmes.
- Doctoral programmes.
- Higher vocational training.
- Healthcare specialisation programmes (MIR, FIR, EIR, PIR, among others).
- Language studies taught by universities or higher-education institutions.
Working while you study
Yes: it allows you to work legally for up to 30 hours a week while you study.
Duration and renewal
It is usually granted for one year or for the length of the study programme, and it can be renewed if you continue your studies and meet the requirements. When the programme ends, the stay can be modified into a residence and work authorisation.
The student's family members
In certain cases, stay authorisations can be processed for direct family members, such as a partner or children, for the period of study.
