Modification from a student permit to an initial residence and work authorisation
For students who, on completing their studies in Spain, have a job offer or a self-employed project.
From student to residence and work
A procedure that allows you to move from the academic sphere to the labour market within Spain and to continue your life project with lawful work, as an employee or self-employed.
What it involves
It transforms the student's administrative status: from a study stay to residence with a work permit, provided the requirements of the current rules are met.
Requirements
- Having completed higher education in Spain, or studies leading to an official qualification.
- A job offer or a professional project, as an employee or self-employed.
- No criminal record in Spain or in previous countries of residence.
- Not being in an irregular situation at the time of the application.
- Meeting the employment and contractual requirements of immigration law.
Advantages
- Remain in Spain lawfully with a residence authorisation.
- Access to the Spanish labour market.
- The period for applying for Spanish citizenship by residence starts to count.
- No need to leave the country when your studies end.
Types of authorisation
- As an employee: requires a job offer from a company in Spain that meets the legal hiring conditions.
- Self-employed: allows you to carry out an economic activity as a self-employed worker with a viable business plan and the corresponding administrative and financial requirements.
Procedure
It is filed with the relevant Immigration Office, usually online or through a legal representative, with the documentation proving the student's situation and the job offer or business project.
Important considerations
- It must be applied for within the deadlines set after the studies end.
- The job offer must meet the legal and salary requirements.
- Foreign documentation must be translated and, where applicable, legalised or apostilled.
