A necessary step to keep living and working legally in Spain when the initial authorisation ends. It covers various situations: initial work authorisations applied for by a company, reunited family members and arraigo residence permits renewed after the first year.
Types of renewal
- People holding an initial authorisation to work as an employee for a company in Spain.
- Family members residing in Spain through family reunification.
- Foreign nationals who obtained residence through arraigo and must renew it after the first year.
Requirements by case
The documentation depends on the type of authorisation being renewed. For social arraigo, for example, you must show that the initial employment relationship continues or, at least, that you have worked for a minimum period, normally six months within the year.
Background checks
In every case the authorities check criminal and police records ex officio, which can count against the renewal.
Schooling of minors
With dependent minor children residing in Spain, you must prove that they are enrolled at school: a requirement common to most renewals and a legal obligation of the resident.
