Renewal of the non-lucrative residence permit
For those renewing their non-lucrative residence while keeping the financial means that made it possible.
Renewal of non-lucrative residence
A relatively simple procedure if the financial conditions that made it possible to obtain the permit are maintained, or have improved. The procedure follows on from the initial grant, but the requirements may differ slightly from those demanded when applying for the visa in the country of origin.
Duration
The renewal is granted for two years, so the financial means proven must cover that whole period of residence in Spain.
Financial means
Sufficient resources for the two years of validity must be shown. With regular or recurring income there is usually no problem; if solvency is proven with savings, the amount needed for the whole period must be justified.
Documentation
All documentation must be in Spanish: documents issued abroad, such as bank certificates, are translated by a sworn translator to be valid.
Renewing with family members
If you renew together with your spouse, you must file an up-to-date marriage certificate, legalised where applicable (the previous one is not valid), and prove cohabitation with a joint municipal registration certificate.
Medical insurance
Full medical insurance, without co-payments, is compulsory: in force for the whole period of residence in Spain and with payments up to date at the time of renewal.
