EU Registration Certificate

Citizens of a member state of the European Union, of the European Economic Area or of Switzerland may move, reside and work freely in Spain; when their stay exceeds three months they must register as residents through the EU Registration Certificate, which proves their status as a resident EU citizen and gives access to rights and services.

What it is for

It officially identifies you as a resident in Spain and is essential for non-EU family members to apply for the residence card as family members of an EU citizen.

Opening a bank account as a resident.
Access to the Social Security system.
Use of public healthcare.
Proof of residence in other administrative procedures.

Requirements

Being in one of these situations and having healthcare cover, public or through private insurance with equivalent benefits, without co-payments and with full cover:

Working as an employee with an employment contract.
Working as a self-employed person or carrying out an economic activity.
Having sufficient financial means to reside without working.
Being a student enrolled at a recognised institution.
